Lowe and Co has confirmed it will close all its refrigerated and freezer units in the country by the end of 2019.
The company said that in the first quarter of 2020 it expects to have no refrigerated units in its UK warehouses, while the remaining refrigerated unit will be sold.
Lowe’s said that the closure of its UK-based warehouses was due to the uncertainty surrounding the Brexit negotiations.
Lowell’s said it had “firmly” decided to close all UK-operated refrigerators and freezer unit by the first half of 2020.
Lowen’s said in a statement that it would continue to supply lowes frozen foods, but said that its current UK manufacturing plans were unlikely to be sustainable and that it was making changes to the current manufacturing process to minimise the impact on customers.
It added that it had agreed with customers to maintain the business in the United Kingdom.
The announcement comes as a further blow to the UK economy as the Government is expected to announce plans to slash corporation tax, while businesses are also expected to be hit by the closure.
