A new fridge can get damaged by water and leaking, a NSW government inquiry has heard.
The inquiry, to be held in the NSW Parliament, is examining whether the State Government can force the manufacturer to supply a new fridge with a leaking detector.
New refrigerators can get water on them from the fridge vent, and the vent can blow out, causing a leak, NSW Water said.
It is a serious issue that is not limited to New South Wales, with other states including Queensland, Victoria and South Australia reporting similar issues.
This is not a new problem, but what is new about this one is that it has happened in a very short period of time, NSW State Secretary for Public Works, Mark O’Dowd, said.
“It’s a serious and widespread issue.”
New fridge: Why can’t I just use a new one?
Mr O’Gwade said he was surprised that there were not more recommendations from the inquiry.
“I don’t think we’ve seen that many of these issues and it’s probably because it’s a new product and we’re not looking at a number of products in a similar period of period of history,” he said.
Mr O’Donohue said the fridge can only be repaired if the vent is removed.
If you don’t have the vent on, it can leak and damage your fridge, he said, but the vent was only added to the product in 2018.
‘A very important step’ NSW Water’s Mr O.
Gwades said that while the NSW Government had identified the problem with the vent, it was not the only problem.
He said it was the first time in a decade that NSW had seen a fridge fail.
We’ve had to look at other products in the past where there has been a problem and we’ve worked with suppliers to get it fixed, he added.
NSFNSWNSW Government is committed to getting our fridge fixed quickly and responsibly, Mr O”DowDee said.
”We’re looking at all of the options and we are going to work with our suppliers to try and get the problem fixed as soon as possible.”
NSFWNSW NSW Government will provide a full report on its investigation to the NSW Cabinet, in the coming weeks, he confirmed.
A fridge in Melbourne is not the same as a fridge in NSW, NSW Power said.
